Day 2 and I woke up crabby this morning. What can I say, it happens.
I forgot to weigh myself but remembered that I had a doctor’s appointment in the afternoon and when he weighed me fully clothed and with my sneakers on, the scale said 141 lbs. He said that he felt that I probably weighed 134 or 136. I told him that my at home scale said I weighed 138 with no clothes or shoes on. He said that his scale was far more accurate and that home scales are often not. 134 or 136 over 138? I’ll take it!
I made myself a smoothie for breakfast, something I hadn’t made myself for ages. Here is the recipe using all organic ingredients:
Yummy Way To Start My Day Smoothie
unsweetened almond milk – 2 cups
banana – 1
frozen peaches – a handful of slices
fresh pineapple – a handful of chunks
coconut oil – 2 tablespoons
Udo’s oil – 1 tablespoon
acai powder – roughly 1/4 teaspoon
hemp protein powder – 2 tablespoons
super mega green powder – 1 scoop
Blend on high in your blender a couple of times, pour into your favorite glass and enjoy!
Now of course you can put pretty much anything into a smoothie. You can use coconut milk, or rice milk, or soy milk or dairy milk or water. You can add any number of different kinds of fruit, you can add kale, flax oil instead of Udo’s, coconut butter instead of oil, different types of powders; the possibilities are endless and pretty much equally yummy.
I got my husband on board with joining me with the meditation element of this sadhana and we practiced together last night before bed, it was nice and we’ll do that again tonight hopefully or I’ll end up just doing it myself, no pressure.
For my exercise element I tried something new today, Pilates. I have a good friend named Bettina who is teaching at the new studio we work at Sky Baby Yoga and Pilates Studio. My husband was working from home so I was able to leave me son with him and give it a go. I really liked it!
I mean, who knew I had a powerhouse?!
And my poor core has been long left alone and uncared for. I gave it lots of love for those sixty minutes! If you have never tried mat Pilates I highly recommend it. It was nice that it was an open class and to know that if I had to take a break or omit anything that it was alright to do that, no pressure.
You can check out Bettina and her great work teaching Pilates by visiting her website.
I got physical again this afternoon when I spent an hour and a half chasing my son around an open gym full of balls, padded junior hockey sticks, hula hoops and a rainbow parachute. My daughter was in a clay class and we needed something to do to bide the time. I took the initiative for us both to get a little exercise and some bonding time along with the fun.
For supper I made a low-fat roasted corn and crab chowder. I love soup, especially on cold days but those lovely creamy, hearty soups are often loaded with fat. I was delighted to find a recipe in The Better Holmes and Gardens Cookbook that was quick, easy and low in fat while keeping with that creamy quotient. Here is the recipe. Now normally I would have had a crunchy piece of hearty bread toasted with butter. I’ll admit it, I wanted it but I didn’t have it.
For snacks I’ve had an apple today and an orange and I’ve decided that I am going to try my best to stop eating by 7:00 pm every night if I can help it. By stopping at that time you help to give your body a good long rest to fully digest and relax. If I feel hungry I’ll go for a nice glass of water instead as many times dehydration can mask itself as hunger.
But I remember that with this there is no pressure.
I want to emphasize that to those of you who are joining me. This is a no pressure sadhana. I have a goal of losing 23 pounds but I’m not pressuring myself every single day to make that happen. I highly doubt I’ll lose that amount in 40 days. But it is part of my long-term goal, it is my eye on the prize part of my plan (see day 1).
Have you made your plan? Have you kept it realistic and with no pressure parameters? Have you remembered that each step counts? Whether you take two steps or sixty steps or a thousand today, each of those steps are important! Be kind to yourself. I gave my powerhouse core some love and attention today, what part of you could use some love and attention? Find out and make some time for you!

I recently made a BH&G chicken and corn chowder from their soup magazine. Plan to make a black bean tomato one tonight. Lover of smoothies, too, but have trouble with them in winter. Great class last night.
Thanks for your kind words regarding the class, as always it was great to see you! Would you mind sharing your recipe for the black bean and tomato soup? It sounds delicious! Smoothies can be difficult to have first thing in the morning on a cold day but I think that knowing that you are beginning your day with ingesting super healthy fruits, vegetables, and whatever else you put in your smoothie, makes up for it. Give it a try on a cold morning keeping that in mind and see if it makes a difference!
This one was quick and easy but not terribly “homemade”: chunky salsa jar, can black beans, can chicken broth, 2 cups diced peppers, cup water, tsp cumin. Boil and simmer for 10. Fast, weeknight dinner.
Sounds great for a busy night! Thanks for sharing it with us!
